Galissas beach is one of the largest and busiest beaches on Syros island. It is located in the southwestern part of the island, 9 km away from Hermoupolis. Galissas beach features blond sand, clear blue waters and trees and it is accredited with a Blue Flag.
It is well organized as it contains umbrellas, sunbeds, a lifeguard with proper equipment, WC, changing rooms and water sports. Galissas beach is the first in Greece to have an automatic external defibrillator (AED), featuring pediatric and adult electrodes, an alarm and a gps tracker which is centrally located near the beach entrance. In Galissas settlement, there are cafes, shops, restaurants and plenty of accommodation. At the top of the hill above the beach Galissa dominates the white Catholic chapel of St. Pakous. There is also located a small harbor for those who have or rent a boat. Galissas beach has free camping too.
Access to the beach is by bus (frequent routes), taxis and private vehicles. Access for disabled people is at a very good level, as proper parking sports, a ramp, a toilet for disabled people, and a floating wheelchair are provided.
