Protaras Beach, or Fig Tree Bay, is one of the most famous beaches in Cyprus. With its clear, shallow water and its fine, golden sand, it is popular to locals and foreign tourists and has been voted on Trip Advisor as one of Europe’s best beaches.
It is accredited with the Blue Flag for the excellent quality of its waters and the facilities provided to bathers and holds the title of “Green Beach”. The beach was named after the fig tree on the back of the beach, which was brought by the conquerors from the east in the 17th century. The rocky islet just a short distance from the coast contributes to the idyllic landscape and is at the same time an exploration point for both young and old.
Facilities on the beach include toilets, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas, water sports facilities, and lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services. The general area has a variety of accommodation, restaurants and kiosks.
The beach also offers disabled access, including a special wheelchair (Floating wheelchair) at the lifeguard tower to help disabled persons enter the sea with assistance from the lifeguards. Access is easy by foot, bike or car, and there is parking place available.
